BJÆRG! the Group Exhibition (2024)

Format: Group Exhibition

Bjærg! serves as an artistic reaction to
demolition, and the value that materials and places are awarded in this process. Bringing together visual artists and experimental architectural practices, the exhibition showcases their work with neglected materials and spaces through various formats such as video, photography, installations, text, and presentations.

The title ‘BJÆRG!’ (eng.: salvage), refers to the scale of the body and the materials which can be carried and moved by human power, contrasting with the heavier materials typically “drowning” during demolitions. The duo ‘iovermorgen’ consider “salvation” as an activist gesture, challenging the prevailing power dynamics in material valuation. In their own contribution, “salvaged goods” are staged through well-known digital and physical formats - a cashless webshop and left behind objects converted into furniture.

In several of the contributions the relationship with materials is connected to the body. Bodies slipping into the underground of resources that exist beneath the available,
priced market, from where they carry scraps, trash, and treasures. Making these kinds of resources the basis of one’s work introduces a new, multifaceted reality where time can be slow, disciplines can intersect and expressions can be raw. BJÆRG! features works in progress, new and reinstalled ones, curated with a fluid transition and letting the structures, materials and messages behind the works merge. The exhibition aims to foster an open space where architecture and art converge, bringing complex realities to life in a tangible way.
